For the dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the filling:

  • 8 slices smoked turkey
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For topping:

  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
    • Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the filling:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • In a small bowl, mix together shredded cheese, chopped parsley (if using), garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
    • Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
    • Layer slices of smoked turkey evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
    • Sprinkle the cheese mixture evenly over the turkey slices.
  3. Roll and shape the bread:
    • Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
    • Pinch the edges to seal and fold the ends under the roll.
    • With a sharp knife, cut the roll into 8 equal-sized pieces.
  4. Bake the bread rolls:
    • Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Finish with topping:
    • In a small bowl, mix melted butter, garlic powder, and dried oregano.
    • Brush the baked rolls with the garlic butter mixture while they’re still hot from the oven.
  6. Serve:
    • Allow the rolls to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy these delicious smoked turkey and cheese stuffed bread rolls as a snack, appetizer, or part of a meal!
